Eric D. Holland was born in Illinois, growing up in a construction-trades family. During high school, Eric earned varsity letters in three sports (baseball, basketball and golf) and began working construction during summer breaks. Following high school, he attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics. He attended the St. Louis University School of Law, where he was elected to the Law Review. Eric worked his way through college and law school in the construction business, often working overtime with his father and learning the value of hard work and precision. Since his graduation from law school, he has been admitted to the state bars of Illinois, Missouri and Michigan as well as federal courts in Texas and Colorado. He has also been admitted to practice in cases and led litigations from coast to coast. He now leads a nationally-recognized law firm based in St. Louis.
Eric limits his practice to catastrophic railroad and transportation accidents, petroleum and toxic tort litigation, class actions and other complex commercial and antitrust litigation. He has litigated cases throughout the United States and has obtained a host of record-setting jury verdicts and settlements. In single injury cases, he obtained over 25 multi-million dollar results in the first 20 years of his law practice involving railroad, product liability, and trucking matters. Most recently, he served as Plaintiffs' counsel where he successfuly represented over 200 franchise owners in a business interruption matter that resulted in a multi-million dollar recovery and as co-lead counsel in a banking class action that resulted in a settlement valued at $20 million. Eric continues to be regularly hired by the country’s most seriously injured railroad workers, injury victims and their families, as well as a wide variety of other clients including publicly-traded companies, water districts, hospitals, villages, international companies, judges and consumers. He is also approved counsel for an international labor union.
Eric is a leader in the national class action bar. He has been appointed to leadership positions in class action litigations including lead counsel, steering committee and executive committee posts in a variety of state and federal courts across the country often involving banking, financial services, product liability, and consumer cases. He is routinely called upon to speak about class action law, having lectured across the country on current issues in class and complex litigation. He was most recently a speaker at the 12th Annual Complex Litigation Symposium in New Orleans, Louisana.
He is an active member of several trial attorney associations including the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys (ARLA), and also serves on the executive committees of the Railroad Trial Lawyers and Class Action Trial Lawyers. He has been elected a Super Lawyer since 2006 and holds the “AV Preeminent” rating of Martindale-Hubbell. Eric has also been honored by DBusiness Magazine as one of metro Detroit's Top Lawyers. He has also been active in the legal community, serving on the Annual Bar Campaign Committee for Legal Services of Eastern Missouri as well as on the steering committee for the Midwest Innocence Project.
Outside of the firm, Eric is a passionate snow skier, an avid outdoorsman, and coached youth sports for over a decade.
