Steven L. Groves

STEVEN L. GROVES, graduated from Saint Louis University School of Law with Honors in 1992.  From his first day as an attorney, Steve’s practice has focused on representing injured people and their families.  He has helped hundreds of railroad employees from all crafts get compensation for on the job injuries.  His clients have come from all of the Class 1 railroads and several regionals and short lines.  He handles both traumatic and occupational (back, knee, arm, etc.) cases and has represented clients from Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Minnesota, Texas and other states.

Steve also handles serious injury or death cases related to petroleum contamination, tractor trailer crashes, railroad crossing collisions and defective products.

He has tried numerous cases in over ten different jurisdictions around the country.  He has obtained record setting verdicts such as the first verdict ($1.2 million) against BNSF in a claim for a retired engineer with back injuries from rough riding engines and poor seating.  He also holds the record for the largest FELA verdict in the state of Kansas ($1.796 million).

He has successfully written and argued numerous appeals in both State and Federal courts.  He has been selected to give presentations to lawyers regarding case preparation and consistently achieves the highest peer rating obtainable from Martindale-Hubbell for skill and ethics.

Steve is a member of the American Association for Justice and serves on the Rail Law section Executive Committee.  He is active in the Missouri Association of Trial Lawyers, where he has served on the Board of Governors for several years.  He is also a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Missouri, Illinois and Kansas Bar Associations.
