On May 5th, the members of BLET Division 106 in Muncie, Indiana helped honor their fallen brother, Jeff York, when they participated with Jeff's widow, Lisa, in dedicating an interlocker near Muncie as "York Point".

HGSS Managing Partner Eric D. Holland was recently appointed to the Executive Committee for the IKO Shingle MultiDistrict Litigation (MDL) pending in Urbana, Illinois. This litigation is a consolidation of class action cases filed across the United States involving a variety of alleged defects in certain IKO roofing shingles.

Holland, Groves, Schneller & Stolze, LLC has obtained preliminary approval of a class action against U.S. Title Guaranty Company (“U.S. Title”) in Circuit Court of St. Louis City, Missouri, alleging that U.S. Title collected certain fees at settlements from consumers and did not always perform the corresponding service in violation of Missouri law. Under the terms of the settlement, all class members from whom fees were collected and no service was performed are eligible to receive a full refund of the fees collected. In addition, U.S. Title has modified its practice with respect to the imposition, collection and disposition of the fees at issue.

As reported by the national media, the Holland Law Firm recently filed a class action lawsuit against Enbridge, Inc and related companies regarding the release of nearly a million gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River in central Michigan.

HGSS partners Steve Stolze and Eric Holland obtained a $17,000,000 jury verdict recently for a client with a mild traumatic brain injury caused by a fall from a defective railroad car in the Chicago area. The defendant disputed the nature and extent of the plaintiff’s injuries and argued to the jury that there was no brain injury sustained.

On April 20, 2010, a series of events unfolded on the oil rig Deepwater Horizon (hereinafter “Deepwater Horizon”) that ultimately led to its sinking and the release of crude oil into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. These events have been widely covered by the media and include an explosion and subsequent fire, along with the loss of a large number of lives as a result thereof. The sunken oil rig is releasing large amounts of oil which, despite initial estimates by certain Defendants and their representatives, is now reported to be up to 5,000 gallons of crude oil per day that is being pumped into the Gulf waters from the sunken rig.
