HGSS partners Steve Stolze and Eric Holland obtained a $17,000,000 jury verdict recently for a client with a mild traumatic brain injury caused by a fall from a defective railroad car in the Chicago area.  The defendant disputed the nature and extent of the plaintiff’s injuries and argued to the jury that there was no brain injury sustained.  Instead, the defendant presented evidence and claimed that all of the plaintiff’s problems and complaints were the result of an undiagnosed and untreated depression, which would clear up if he got a job and took medication.  The defendant also presented secret videotapes taken of the plaintiff in an attempt to show that his activities were not consistent with his claimed injuries and the damages alleged.  However, the jury’s deliberations, which lasted almost 3 hours, resulted in a verdict of $17 million for the HGSS client.  “It was a justice for our client,” said Stolze.  For additional information about HGSS, please contact Eric Holland, eholland@hgsslaw.com.
